Aso Rock Describes N2trillion Election Funds Story as “Mischievous, False and Wrongheaded”

The presidency has exposed today's front-page story on the Sunday Punch that said Pres. Jonathan spent a whopping N2 trillion on the 2015 General elections, and that a committee of five has been set up by President Jonathan to conduct an audit of how the funds were payed out by party members and state officials.

In an interview with state house correspondents, the president’s spokesman, Reuben Abati, described the report as “mischievous, false and embarrassing. It was just to paint Mr president and his party bad to the people; the handiwork our its opposition.. he said".

Ababti continued saying... “The President has not set up any committee as alleged in that story. It is also not true that the Presidency and the Peoples Democratic Party used state funds, or spent N2 trillion during the campaigns. The innuendoes are wrong-headed; the motives behind the story are suspicious.

My Threat Of Killing People During The Elections Was To Infuse Fear In Them- Joseph Mbu

Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2, in person of Joseph Mbu, has said the threat he issued to kill 10 people for every policeman killed has greatly and positively iflurnced the conduct of the Lagos State election towards a peaceful one. Mbu says as a police officer he is prohibited to go about killing citizens, but only made that statement to infuse fear in them and it really worked. Here is what he told journalists shortly after the elections;

“Generally, people are becoming more and more mature, sensitive and reasonable. And anyway, the statement I made, which generated a lot of (controversy); people misconstrued it all over, but that also helped the police because people say, ‘this man has come o and whatever he says, he means it’, and that also instilled fear in them.

READ: President Jonathan Addresses The Nation Ahead of Tomorrow's Election.

As Nigeria returns to the polls again tomorrow, I urge all registered voters to come out in mass and exercise their civic duty/civil right to vote.

I have instructed our security agents to fully facilitate the right of Nigerians to choose leaders of their choice at various state and local assembly levels by putting away devotion to a particular party or group but ensuring that we all vote in a secure environment. It is the sacrifice and mandate of our security agents to secure our nation, so we can all be confident to come out and vote our conscience all over the federation.

I urge contestants to respect the will of the people as we promote a new Nigeria that is a pacesetter and light bearer in the practice of democratic politics without bitterness.
 May God bless Nigeria.

President Goodluck Ebere Jonathan

The presidency is now trying to find out if the leak came from his team or rather from Gen. Buhari's camp. A source told Saturday Sun; “Definitely, unauthorised release of a raw recording of the President’s telephone conversation, if from our (Presidency’s) end is a security breach that cannot go without being investigated,” the source said.

The source said if they find out the audio, which went viral two days ago, was from the Presidency, then further investigation would be conducted to fish out the brain behind it in order to determine appropriate punishment.
