A Germanwings plane carrying 148 passengers and 6 crew members has crashed in the southern French Alps en route from Barcelona in Spain to Dusseldorf in Germany before it suddenly disappear off the radar before crashing near Digne-les-Bains. This happened around 11am (10am GMT).
The United States is willing to know if any US citizens were aboard the Airbus operated by Lufthansa's Germanwings budget airline. The United States is however ready to offer assistance and support to the governments of France, Germany, and Spain as they investigate this tragedy; department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in the statement.
